Congratulations to Alicia Wilson ~ the winner of the "SpecialTea Lady" Gift Presentation
This page is dedicated in honor of celebrating Alicia Wilson, the winner of the "SpecialTea Lady" Gift Presentation. Ladies that have fought the battle of breast cancer or those that continue to fight this battle were nominated for this special gift. I am so excited to create this gift for Alicia! I hope she will be reminded of just what a special lady she is each time she enjoys a cuppa "SpecialTea Lady Blend" ~ a blend of tea I created in honor of breast cancer survivors and those that continue to fight this disease. So, take a few minutes to read about Alicia's story...I think you will feel truly inspired and touched. I know I was!
Alicia is a retired educator who served twelve years as an elementary school teacher and twenty-four years as an elementary school principal. She says she enjoyed every minute she spent in her career and is equally enjoying her retirement.
She stays occupied by being in various groups of retired teachers and by traveling. She spends a lot of time visiting with her little great-nieces in Chicago. This past year, she traveled to Italy and Greece. Just last week, she went on a short cruise to Cozumel. She really enjoys traveling with a group of friends that she has been traveling with for over twenty years.
Alicia is a breast cancer survivor of eight years. In September of 1999, she underwent a lumpectomy. She had six months of chemo and 36 radiation treatments. Alicia states, "With the Lord's help and the support of family and friends, I survived." At the time of the diagnosis, she was caring for her elderly parents. Alicia credits her parents and the responsibility she felt for her desire to fight the disease and survive. She was serving as president of a retired teachers' association and did not miss a single meeting.
Alicia says such tremendous advancement in the treatment of breast cancer makes it possible for more women to survive. She says, "Early detection is of utmost importance." She encourages all women to do monthly breast exams and have yearly mammograms.
"I have always enjoyed life, but now I have a deeper appreciation for every minute of my life." What inspiring words!
Well, I told you her story is full of inspiration! Congratulations, Alicia, on being a breast cancer survivor! Thank you for sharing your story; may your life continue to be filled with many blessings!
Have a "tealightful" week!
